Welcome to the 2025 Manchester School of Architecture end of year exhibition which features the student work of our BA Architecture, MArch Architecture, and Master of Landscape Architecture programmes centred around our 8 Ateliers, as well as displays from our other programmes; MA Architecture & Urbanism, and MA Architecture & Adaptive Reuse, along with numerous other aspects of the School such as the fabulous MSA Live that supports over 40 community groups and charities with live projects.
For the third year in a row we have been ranked 5th in the prestigious QS world rankings for Architecture with our Employer Reputation rating now at 98.9% which is second in the world, only behind Harvard, and our Academic Reputation also sits an impressive 6th. The ranking is testament to the quality of teaching and research across the School, the excellent work of our students, all of which is recognised by academic and industry peers.
It’s been a successful year across the School. The joint agreement between University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University that creates this unique School of Architecture has been signed in perpetuity rather than in 5 year blocks, our Part 3 programme has attracted over 70 students in only its 3rd year of running, we have validated updated BA and MArch Architecture programmes to refresh them in line with RIBA changes and are currently updating our other MA programmes. There have been far too many staff successes in both research and teaching to mention, and we have appointed new staff whilst others have moved on with thanks for their contribution.
We appointed a number of new Visiting Professors to join our already impressive pool who support programmes and areas across the School. Welcome to Visting Professors of Architecture Hazel Rounding from Shed KM, and Mike Tonkin of Tonkin Liu, Visiting Professor of Sustainable Architecture Robert Hopkins of AHR, Visiting Professor of Inscriptive Practices & Future Processes Professor Perry Kulper of University of Michigan, Visiting Professor of Landscape Architecture José Miguel Lameiras of University of Porto, and Visting Professor of Architectural Studies Georgia (Jilly) Traganou of Parsons.
We’d like to thank all of the staff from both institutions, visiting tutors, speakers, practices, organisations, and community groups who’ve contributed to our curriculum this year, we are so grateful for your continued support into our academic community. We are also very grateful to our sponsors who support activities throughout the year, particular thanks to Ibstock for supporting an MArch trip to New York, and to Wienerberger for their ongoing commitment to our Part 3 programme in the form of bursaries. We’d also like to thank our end of year show sponsors, Buro Happold engineers, Randstad recruitment, and Karndean flooring for supporting the student Summer Ball. Your support makes a huge difference to our students in these financially challenging times. We’d also like to thank the amazing list of practices and organisations that sponsor the end of year prizes which help make the degree show extra special.
We would also like to thank our incredible student society, MSSA, who continue to be impressively active despite the pressures they face studying. The society organises academic, extra-curricular, and sporting events, and are also responsible for our traditional end of year ball which this year had over 350 guests. It’s been a particular pleasure working with this year’s committee, President Enqi Wong, Secretary and Inclusion Officer James Coop, and Treasurer Constance Fournage. Thank you for your commitment to the School.
Finally, the School would of course be nothing without our amazing students whose passion, hard work, and ability makes us what we are. Our dedicated staff team work incredibly hard all year to support them and we’d like to pay particular thanks to them for their commitment to the students.
This is a special time of year for us all, celebrating the achievements of everyone connected with the School along with the friends and family of our students. Congratulations to you all.
We hope you enjoy viewing the work of our incredible students!
