In the midst of a climate emergency, Manchester has declared that it will achieve zero carbon by 2038, however, our research shows that the current policies and guidance set in place do not provide clear pathways to achieving this strategic aim. Our design tool, which is set in 2060, presents Manchester after it has failed to meet its zero-carbon target. In our project, we use an Ai-based conceptual approach where our research will be fed into the Ai, which will then devise policy aims that affect spatial strategies and aims to design a zero-carbon city. Understanding the implications of different kinds of city design can play a fundamental role in forming policy and ongoing development choices by demonstrating the likely future outcomes or impacts of specific solutions. Our design approach uses a complex adaptive systems framework embedded in our design tool which allows us to achieve adaptability by exploring the implications of different emerging/ disruptive technologies, such as micro-mobility and renewable energy generation. The outcome of this project is a web-based application tool that enables the users to view generated masterplan iterations of our site, which can be compared against each other. Each iteration will have levels of interactivity, including one masterplan which will give the user the opportunity to interact with the buildings within specific areas of the site to view their performance and the renewable energy it produces.
