Manchester East

With the onset of the "Climate Emergency," the need to design better cities for the future has become imperative. However, there is no single solution that can tackle all the challenges associated with climate change. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt a comprehensive approach that incorporates multiple strategies to have a tangible impact.

ManchesterEast is a dynamic area of the city, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and thriving business sector. In recent years, it has experienced significant development and growth, establishing itself as one of the leading investment and innovation destinations in the UK. The upcoming HS2 high-speed rail network will further enhance the region's opportunities by serving as a connection hub to the rest of the country. With its favorable positioning, Manchester East is well-equipped to meet the demands of a growing 21st-century city.

This project represents a prime opportunity to develop an innovative and sustainable master plan for the area. By employing a series of computational experiments, aimed at addressing the identified design objectives and challenges through extensive research, the goal is to create a socially equitable city that prioritizes connectivity through transportation and green corridors. These corridors will be constructed using zero-carbon techniques, while various building typologies will be analyzed to determine the most energy-efficient solutions with reduced embedded emissions. Through the application of these techniques, a prototype design can be developed that propels the realization of a Zero Carbon City.
