Forest Playtorium: A Daycare Centre for children with ASD

Informed by my Humanities elective, User-Centric Design, the building sits within the level changes on site. A large central area focuses on Materials, Level Changes and Zoning, the three aspects of providing clear, physical boundary in the environment of the children, who are not able to define it themselves. Weaving through and defining these level changes are ramp, whose landings extend to form the play areas, thus making each one accessible.Tying in the Atelier SKN agenda to the building, the cladding makes use of masonry in a very unique bond that provides gaps for  encouraging moss and small insects habitat growth inside. Over time, this will act as an additional protective layer from the elements. Site circulation has been considered, with private and public differentiation, and an installment of decking through the trees and level changes on the site - one bringing people in from the tram station across the river, and one for the children. A playground of risks and nature encourages a range of socialisation acitivites, sensory connectivity, zoning, physical activity, etc.
