The Transparent Abattoir: This proposal challenges the current model of the meat production industry in order to reduce its massive environmental impact and increase the welfare of the animals being slaughtered. By scaling down production and allowing the public to observe the entire production process - from live animal to packaged product - this 'transparent' abattoir will simultaneously provide traceability and transparency for consumers and create accountability within the meat industry.

This abattoir will also entice visitors to interact with the livestock animals before buying their meat. By confronting the public with the reality of meat production, the meat is imbued with a deeper meaning and is no longer just a packaged product on a shelf; therefore encouraging people to reduce their meat consumption.

This new model of meat production also provides a comfortable accommodation for the livestock that simulates a farm environment before they are slaughtered, allowing for a painless transition from life to death for the animals.
