My project, ‘Ghosts of Pomona’, focuses around the intersection of the site’s rich histories, inspired by the ghostly and eerie atmosphere of the site, it’s status as a place forgotten by time. By taking the void as the architectural equivalent of the ghost, the reinterpretations of historical events and structures that have shaped Pomona Island’s unique topography are superimposed. The proposed warehouse forms play with the balance of old and new, historical and modern.  A bespoke facade system that finely regulates solar gain serves to play into the ephemerality of the building, blurring the boundary between interior and exterior. The site's unique position in Manchester addresses the much-needed lack of green and community spaces in the city centre, by providing public space dedicated to arts; reinvigorating the north as a cultural centre.
