Monument Of Life

St Cuthbert's Garden Village sits three miles from the Lake District National Park one of England's most visited landscapes yet remains among the most poor towns in Cumbria. The land remained. The water remained. But meaning disappeared with the work that once tied everyday life to the land.

Monument of Life began from that condition. Not to place a building within the landscape, but to rebuild a relationship between people and environment through architecture.

The ambition of this project is to position infrastructure not as something hidden beneath the landscape, but as a mediator between people and ecology. A visible reminder that something once neglected is slowly being brought back into relation with the people around it.
