Crewe's Dairy Farm

Reestablishing a sense of belonging among young people in Crewe by transforming a neglected, underutilised part of the town, home to a historic industrial building, into an urban dairy farm.

The project proposes an urban dairy farm with a Cheshire cheese-making facility designed to actively engage local youth. Drawing inspiration from the unique history of craftsmanship and industry in Crewe, and its power in fostering a sense of pride and ownership, the project seeks to reestablish a sense of belonging among the younger generation in Crewe through hands-on engagement with dairy farming and cheese-making.

The programme includes key facilities, such as a food hall, community kitchens, cheese production space, cowshed, milking parlour, and a distinctive ‘cheese tower’ for the ageing and maturation of cheese. The project is more than just a farm; it is a place for growth, learning, and inclusion, where young people can build practical skills, develop responsibility, and form strong peer connections.

By blending agriculture, industry, and education, the project offers an environment that aims to reconnect the community, particularly its youth, with the town’s heritage and landscape.
