Orchestrated Extraction
ORCHESTRATED EXTRACTION
“Orchestrated Extraction” unfolds within a reimagined geopolitical landscape, where Cornwall has reclaimed its stance as a self-governed nation. At the heart of this revival lies the emergence of lithium extraction—an unprecedented opportunity for Cornwall to redefine its identity, not only economically and ecologically, but culturally. This initiative proposes the formation of “lithium communities” as a means to reclaim lost independence, rooted in centuries of mining tradition and Celtic heritage.
The project speculates on the natural acoustics of the site at the edge of the Cornubian Batholith, where the immersive museum becomes a self-played instrument - an aeolian harp. Architecture and sound converge to form a dynamic system in which structure manipulates the propagation of sound waves, transforming the space into a living narrative of Cornwall’s mining legacy. The storytelling path echoes the rhythm, weight, and resilience of Cornish miners, their routine and the harsh enviornment they would exist in, immersing visitors in the sensory experience of historical struggle and endurance. Set against windswept granite outcrops and the rugged contours of the moorland, the museum draws its materiality and form through the desired resonation and sound wave propagation.
Through strategic architectural intervention and sonic innovation, the project presents a model for sustainable community building—one that aligns technological advancement with ecological sensitivity, cultural heritage, and economic self-sufficiency. In “Orchestrated Extraction,” the sounds of the past and future harmonize, offering a visionary blueprint for a sovereign Cornwall forged through memory, matter, and music.
