Filling The Void: What Comes After West Cumbria's Nuclear Landscape?
This thesis project unpacks what the future of West Cumbria could be. With the decommissioning of the Sellafield site (currently one of Cumbria's biggest employers), it's important to have a plan in motion to alleviate the economic void the closure of this site will eventually have in 200 years. The speculative scenario focuses on turning West Cumbria into a clean energy powerhouse with infrastructure developing alongside Sellafield's decommissioning. The plan is divided into three scales, the macro (a holistic masterplan at the Cumbria scale), the meso (a clean energy campus masterplan which focuses on developing the plan with a bottom-up approach), and the micro (an individual education building with emphasis on designing for disassembly)
