Echo of Cetenary
Adaptive reuse on the Centenary Building with important signifiacne and aesthetic archittectural features created by its distinguished architect certainly requires in-depth critical thinking on every design decision. For an architecture student, it is wise to adopt a pretty conservative approach. Under this principle, the atriumm - the notable feature of the building is enhanced by pushing it up and changing it into glass volume. In this case, the atrium manifests itself not only as an inner street and main axis of the building, but also a sunlight control and connection between the exsiting two architecture volumes. In the aspect of its context, the atrium enhance the relationship between the building axis and church axis at distance with sighline, forming a consistant 'urban spine'. Besides, with the steel structure extension to accommodate social space, the reused Cetenary Building build the link to the Meadow, a beautiful park. It provides a wonderful landscape view when people are standing on the roof garden of the extension.
