Rochdale Neighbourhood
This project operates across multiple scales, moving from the broad vision of a masterplan to the finer detail of architectural design. At its foundation lies the Rochdale Neighbourhood Masterplan, which seeks to re-establish strong connections between the railway station and the town centre while addressing the needs of commuters, residents, and visitors. The strategy is grounded in contextual responsiveness, drawing from Rochdale’s heritage and urban fabric while envisioning a more integrated and accessible future.
Within this framework, The Gateway Quarter emerges as a key focus area. Positioned at the threshold between station and town, it is designed as both a physical and symbolic entry point. The masterplan defines its role in improving pedestrian flows, framing heritage assets such as the Fire Museum, and introducing new public spaces that enhance openness and legibility.
At the architectural scale, Co-Create Rochdale was developed as a detailed intervention within the Gateway Quarter. This building functions as a hub for collaboration, culture, and community life, embodying the masterplan’s ambitions while offering a human-scaled place of interaction. Importantly, it also serves as the home for Rochdale Creates, reinforcing its role as a civic anchor that champions creativity and local identity.
