Common futures, creative differences
&architects aspire to be the cutting edge of architectural practice, contributing their creative powers to evolving a discipline leading the way in addressing the common existential challenges faced by our planet, its peoples and their livelihoods. &architecture are interested in using creative differences to generate collective futures because we know that we need different futures to the ones we currently expect. It’s clear that: Creating a global commons is a fundamental requirement of addressing the climate emergency; Creating community economies is essential for ecologically and socially just production and; Creating communities of care is a necessary condition of healthy, happy living. Valuing difference is key in any search for the new and original and creative differences are the foundation of an ethical discipline which seeks to avoid biases, habits and presumptions.
We address five critical principles for common practice across our cohorts:
- CP1 Practice – Ethical Ambitions: How do we behave?
- CP2 Users – Creative Differences: Who creates?
- CP3 Site – Shared Cities: Who can share?
- CP4 Programme – Common Purposes: Who benefits?
- CP5 Construction – Just Resources: Who can produce?
