The archoclogy

My thesis project in collaboration with Manchester city council, focuses on development of Eastland in Manchester. Through the thesis, I explore ideas of density, gentrification and zero carbon cities, how to reduce energy use and how to generate electricity on site.

The project focuses on a projected version of the eastland, testing various planned policies published by the MCC to see how they'll affect home affordability, site connectivity, profit from development, resident satisfaction and energy generation capacity and energy use.

To achieve this I used theories based around self organisation and emergent patterns to create a computational tool that used a bottom up approach to urbanism. The prediction models would use historic data of Eastland to predict changes in land uses while applying the specific policy and trying to universally optimise the site to meet the evaluation criteria.
