Continuity in Architecture

The focus of our atelier is the revival of bygone architecture and elevating it such that it meets the requirements of today whilst also respecting its past. Our atelier also focuses on the reuse of existing space and revitalising it to create unique spaces that sensitively responds to its context.

Our task was to establish a new craft economy (Guild) in the heart of Preston – a place to learn, research, make, build, and trade. This Project will aim to create a new interpretation of a Guild in the ‘Hidden Garden’ that will benefit and attend to the present and future requirements of Preston. Not only will it be a centre of craft and learning, but a place of interaction and fun for the community of Preston. My interpretation of a Guild will house a joinery workshop that will preserve the Grade II listed buildings surrounding the site as well as produce wooden furniture. In addition, many green spaces within the site will be preserved or regenerated to be more accessible to the local community by way of cafes and outdoor workshops in the summer, as well as the addition of a roof garden. Lastly, it will act as a safe, inviting passageway between Lancaster road and Tithebarn Street.
