The river Medlock is a defining feature of Holt town, formerly known as the Bradford Road triangle, brimming with underused spaces. Contaminant exposure during the post-industrial era significantly damaged water quality and soil. The project aims to improve the water quality and surrounding environment of the river Medlock. By using constructed wetlands, coupled with phytoremediation, it harvests heavy metals and toxins that are usually difficult to remove using bioremediation techniques. Thus this transformation will allow the area to achieve its full potential as a recreational amenity, green corridor and ecological habitat.
