Today, the Secret Lake is a place of serenity - an escape from the chaos of modern Manchester. However, its origin comes from the powerful and exploitative fabric industries of the Industrial Revolution, which built and shaped landscapes across the country. Now another more powerful and invisible industry is exploiting the public much like the industrial industries of the 1800’s. Surveillance Capitalism is an industry growing faster than laws can be created to control it, and if we do not find a means to do so, how will it grow to shape and influence our environment like the Industrial Revolution did before it?
