I am a Madrid-based chartered architect, researcher, and Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture. I hold a PhD in Architecture from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ETSAM-UPM). My work investigates the intersection of visual, technological, and cultural innovation within architectural discourse, with particular emphasis on how these convergences shape the design, perception, and experience of space. My research focuses on immersive environments and their early development across diverse architectural and cultural contexts, including exhibition design, theatre, utopian projects, and pavilions for Universal Exhibitions. Through this lens, I examine how such environments have contributed to transforming spatial experience, expanding the ways architecture is conceived, perceived, and inhabited. I am especially interested in the historical and theoretical frameworks through which architecture engages the spectator, constructs atmospheres, and mediates relationships between space, image, technology, and perception.
Alongside my academic work, I maintain an established professional practice as a chartered architect. Since 2001, I have worked independently across a wide range of projects, including architectural design, interiors, exhibition design, and photographic work. My practice has also involved collaboration with distinguished architects such as Juan Navarro Baldeweg, an experience that has informed my understanding of design culture and the interplay between artistic and spatial thinking.
My professional work has received several awards recognising both its quality and its innovative approach. Across research, teaching, writing, and practice, my work is united by a commitment to architecture as a spatial, visual, and cultural medium capable of producing transformative experiences.
Prior to joining MSA, I held research, teaching and visiting positions at CEU University School of Architecture, UAM, and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). I have also delivered guest lectures and served as a design critic at universities across Asia and Europe.
