Woodland Viaduct
Drawing on eastern wabi-sabi philosophy and the intersection between loneliness and Architecture, the proposal explores history, nature and our connection to it. It aims to liberate a disused Victorian viaduct and nurture the woodland ecology that has taken root within it. Providing a unique and visceral experience that allows the public to immerse themselves in the story of the city, and nature’s ever-present, but increasingly precarious relationship with the world we inhabit.
The Woodland Viaduct project was initially born from in-depth and on-the-ground explorations and research into the Mayfield area. Loneliness became the key driver of this project. Can we solve it? Should we accept it? Is it going to get worse?
