Framing the Journey
Following the decline of Crewe’s railway manufacturing industry and the proliferation of out-of-town retail parks, the town's cultural heritage has devalued, prompting local concern regarding civic perception, infrastructure and community amenities.
The proposed design addresses these issues by introducing a series of steel portal frame structures that adapt the historic train-shed material palette for contemporary programmatic needs. Simultaneously, the proposal reinterprets the site's disused floodlight tower as a civic beacon.
Rather than altering the physical fabric, the proposal celebrates the tower's monumentality by framing sequential views of the structure
