The Quest For Connection
I have redesigned Crewe Heritage centre to be a hub for connection and convergence. When designing I had three pillars in mind - Immersive experiences, Memories and Nature. The immersive experience will start as soon as you step on site. You will receive a vintage style train ticket upon entry and embark upon a journey through Crewe’s history from founding to recent events. Visitors will be guided along a one-way trip through exhibitions large and small, galleries, historical building recreations, viewing points, a shop and cafe before being welcomed into a vibrant but calming green space. Along the journey, photo opportunities will be placed allowing for a step into history where visitors can become part of the scene.
I wanted to create an experience that was unique and memorable for visitors to look back on with fondness. When a space is interesting, exciting and a unique experience, it becomes memorable. Looking back on these memories is an effective way to improve mood and cultivate a better mental health.
Whilst learning about Crewe’s cultural and industrial history, the visitors will also be able to foster a connection with nature. Crewe’s industrial past and run-down present have led to a lack of substantial green space causing a lack of space for the community to relax and experience its benefits. The chance to get in touch with nature will also be extended to the general public, via a bridge that bypasses the main building allowing for access to the park, not just for visitors to the heritage centre, thus supporting the mental well-being of the local community.
