Embedding Sustainability Across Our Programmes
In recent years, our approach to sustainable teaching has grown significantly. We’re now integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into every programme, guided by UNESCO’s Eight Key Competencies for Sustainability and aligned with MMU’s 2022–2026 Leadership in Sustainability strategy.
Empowering Climate Champions
We’ve appointed Climate Champions within the School—staff members certified by the Carbon Literacy Project. This year, the B15 Modelmaking team also completed carbon literacy training. We continue to support staff through CPD opportunities that enhance their understanding of sustainability, professionalism, and ethics.
Leading with Adaptive Reuse
Our ateliers are developing strong, critical responses to the climate and biodiversity emergency. A key focus is on building reuse: our MArch 1 students engage in adaptive reuse projects.
Showcasing Natural Materials
Now in its second year, our Natural Materials exhibition gives students hands-on experience with plant- and bio-based materials, encouraging sustainable design thinking.
Student-Led Innovation
The MSSA Climate Action Group continues to lead with impact. Their Modular Resilience design competition challenged students to rethink housing for post-war crisis zones—focusing on sustainability, resilience, and rapid deployment.
A Curriculum for the Future
We’re committed to innovation in teaching and learning on sustainability. Our curriculum reflects the latest research and empowers and informs students to create imaginative, socially responsible, and sustainable responses for people and planet.
