A Nature Connected Daycare and Creche
In a digital world, it's my belief that a connection to nature is key to improving the health and happiness of the population. Specifically on Bredford Road, I noticed a lack of children centres that do so. Leading to my design of a daycare/creche that would provide a comfrotable and safe space to grow, learn, and play within nature.
A completely timber structure supported by stone blocks, the building mirrors the Japanese engawa to create a seemless relationship between indoor rooms and the shared gardens. CLT rooms and glulam frames support each other through gravity, allowing for a completely regenerative structure that can be recycled at the end of building life.
Custom garden furnishings further strengthen the relationship to the outdoors, by providing built-in areas to play imaginatively and learn the process of botany, nurturing vegatation and wildlife, and cooking. Including a beehive and big hotel I designed which uses it's peronsal halo of nectar rich plants to support bee life and the dwindeling population of insects.
