The Reframe End Bridge
This project proposes a vertical refuge tower that responds to the increasing threats of climate-induced flooding and social vulnerability in marginalised communities. Set in a derelict industrial district of Sheffield, the building offers a self-sufficient and adaptable space that can function both as an emergency shelter and a long-term living environment.
The tower integrates flood-resilient structure, vertical hydroponic agriculture, and a fog-harvesting façade to create a closed-loop system of food and water. Communal areas, green terraces, and modular residential units aim to serve displaced residents—particularly low-income families and women—during environmental or housing crises.
Designed with sustainable materials such as steel framing, recycled concrete, wood fibre insulation, and double-glazed façades, the project reflects a balance between technical performance, ecological integration, and ethical design.
