The Rising Sanctuary

The Rising Sanctuary is located near Spartan Works, Sheffield, an area that is becoming increasingly vulnerable to flooding as a result of climate change, poor drainage, and the convergence of five major rivers. This project focuses on assisting underprivileged communities, which are frequently the most affected by climate disasters, with minimal resources and support.

At its heart is the Empowerment and Resilience Centre, a floating, flood-resistant structure constructed on stilts. It is intended not simply to withstand rising water, but also to assist individuals experiencing social and economic distress. It's structure is desgined to adapt to its environment, accepting change instead of trying to stop it.

The Centre provides personalized training and skill development programs that address the individual needs of its users.Individuals coping with low confidence, unemployment, or social isolation will benefit from the sessions' practical tools and emotional support. Sessions cover anything from job preparation and hands-on building skills to confidence building and community involvement. People are empowered to participate in self-build activities using salvaged Sheffield materials to help construct the centre, so increasing both environmental and personal resilience.

Serenity, a leading character i created, who represents caring, leadership, and advocacy, acts as the starting point in transforming the lives of 'The Disadvantaged'. She represents people who come forward at times of crises to help those who are often left behind, something i value as an aspiring user-centered architect.

The Rising Sanctuary reimagines architecture as a tool for society, not just a response to climate change, but also a place to restore lives. It empowers individuals to build their own futures with courage and dignity, demonstrating that even in the face of rising floods, communities can rise together.
