Nutrient Hub

This portfolio redefines the possibilities of architectural projection through the lens of Nutrients - documenting the development of a research facility and growth sanctuary to the water plantain that itself is a catalyst for nutrition. Excessive nutrients can be detrimental, leading to eutrophication & loss of biodiversity. The proposal is informed by policies such as Nutrient Neutrality & the EU Habitats Directive that set the framework for a mindful presence on a brownfield site.

On a macro scale, gas is a crucial nutrient; heating homes, powering industries & influencing economies. However beneficial it is to anthropic prosperity, it is at the detriment of the environment. Plant species are co-engineers to this multiphase proposal, utilising nature-based solutions (NBS) in a cradle-to-cradle, design for disassembly approach. To redefine the nutrient balance in Manchester & propagate rehabilitation to the larger biosphere with the benefit of all life.
