Reclaimed Crewe

I am a passionate and thoughtful architecture student with a strong interest in sustainable design and material reuse. I enjoy working with reclaimed materials, not just for their environmental benefits, but also for the unique character they bring to a project.

My project focuses on creating spaces that connect history, technology, and education through thoughtful and sustainable design. A recent project centres around a train and car exhibition space that celebrates the industrial heritage of Crewe, a town once renowned for its pivotal role in locomotive manufacturing. The design aims to honour this legacy by creating an engaging and informative environment where visitors can explore the evolution of transport and its impact on the town’s identity.Alongside the exhibition space, I developed a technology student centre that provides a hands-on learning environment for young people interested in the engineering behind locomotives. The centre includes workshops, collaborative learning spaces, and a library, all designed to encourage curiosity and skills development in STEM fields.

A key goal in this project was to ensure the buildings blended into their environment without overpowering it. I used reclaimed brick and metal sheeting, both sourced locally, to reflect the town’s industrial identity while reducing the carbon footprint caused by transporting new materials. This approach reinforced my interest in sustainable design and the circular use of materials, ensuring that architecture can be both environmentally responsible and culturally meaningful.
