This Idea is Still Rubbish

My primary foci within the Flux Atelier during BA3 have been exploring Architecture through its effects on its context; from initial ideas through to the design’s end of life. This holistic approach has allowed me to design with deeper considerations for material use and construction techniques, with the aim of minimising my project’s Embodied Carbon Values and Operational Carbon Costs. Due to this, I have developed an interest in experimental re-use and recycling of materials, implementing them into building fabrics as an attempt to minimise and offset Carbon within designs, something I have become incredibly passionate about.

This Idea is Still Rubbish proposes the cleaning up of Mayfield’s physical context through the DONATION, EXCHANGE AND RECYCLING of its PLASTIC CONSUMERIST WASTE, in turn improving the context’s community and reducing anti-social behaviours. A recycling centre, located on the north-side of Mayfield’s Viaduct on Fairfield Street would promote members of the community to collect the three predominant plastic waste types in Mayfield, in exchange for recycled products manufactured on site. The design utilises the recycled materials themselves within the building fabric to create a design aimed for functionality and sequestering as much carbon as possible, a physical proof of concept for the utility of recycled plastic within architecture to the greatest possible extent.
