The New Crewe Heritage Museum

As a forward thinking designer, I believe architecture must be rooted in responsibility- toward people, the environment, and the future. The user experience is also something of great importance to me,  as I believe good architecture should evoke emotion and foster engagement. Furthermore, in my work I have aimed to uphold the duty of creating spaces that respond to both the immediate and evolving needs of communities, and this ties into my conception of heritage- a living entity that is everchanging as socities do.

My project is a bold reimagining of the Crewe Heritage Center as a dynamic cultural hub that embodies a sense of connection, place and nature. My design places the community of Crewe at its core while celebrating the town’s deep industrial legacy. A unique feature of this proposal is a dedicated heritage train line that brings visitors directly into the museum itself. In the structure I have used materials such as sustainablly sourced Sandstone and Steel that echo the town’s industrial roots. This selection ensures that the building feels authentic to its setting while promoting long-term sustainability. The scheme also includes a biodiverse nature trail weaves through the site, incorporating interactive installations that celebrate Crewe’s non-human habitation. The architecture uses a modular system of CLT prefabricated wall panels, allowing for future disassembly and reconfiguration- reflecting the evolving nature of heritage as something open to change. Through flexible exhibition spaces and layered storytelling, the museum becomes a living piece of Crewe, built to grow, adapt and connect.
