Hulmeloonie City

“Exchange of Multi-Dimensions” reclaims Hulme’s creative identity through an intersectional, community-led design. Rooted in feminist theory and inspired by local squatting culture, the project comprises modular studios and a dynamic scaffolding perimeter, constructed from reclaimed materials, supporting three core programs: Learn, Create, and Exhibit.

The Kaleidoscope inspired abstractions within form and landscape, fostering organic exploration of identity and collaboration. The design empowers users, ranging from students to retirees, to reshape and adapt the space, reflecting Hulme’s evolving narratives. Timber cladding, green roofs, and PV panels promote sustainability, while adaptable partition walls and open-plan interiors ensure accessibility and inclusivity.

This project is not merely a site of architecture, but a framework for cultural reactivation, offering both protection and provocation. As a landmark of collective memory and a canvas for expression, it positions architecture as a catalyst for social connection and creative agency in the heart of Manchester.
