What goes around, grows around !

Every place holds a distinct identity—some more immediately legible than others. Curry Mile, celebrated for its vibrant stretch of multicultural cuisine, is one of Manchester’s most iconic urban corridors. Yet, its identity extends beyond commercial facades and culinary offerings.

This project seeks to engage with Curry Mile more holistically by addressing the social and environmental needs of the communities that sustain it. It proposes a circular system that redistributes excess food from over 75 restaurants back into the local neighbourhood, promoting both food equity and collective well-being. In return, as an incentive for participating businesses, core ingredients—particularly culturally significant spices—will be locally cultivated by the migrant communities who shaped the area’s character. These ingredients will be processed on-site, creating a self-sustaining loop grounded in reciprocity and care. By building upon the existing identity of Curry Mile, the project transforms it into a model of interdependence, resilience, and cultural continuity.
