Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Type: Historical Precedent
The Beijing Olympics are largely considered to be the most finely orchestrated Games in modern history, combining world-class stunning engineering and spectacular events and ceremonies. It was also a success in sporting terms, with many prestigious world records broken. Its shadow looms large over the London Olympics, and the London team has sought to distance itself by promoting the London Games differently, focussing on economic sustainability and the modern cultural vibrancy of London over the kind of ceremonies seen in Beijing which cannot hope to better in terms of sheer organisation and spectacle.
