The Athens 2004 Olympic Games set a precedent for the UK to ensure that public planning processes begin far in advance to ensure no last-minute rush to completion as occurred in Athens. 2004 was nevertheless a successful games and the venues were completed and functioning for the Games, however the same cannot be said for the legacy of the Olympic Village, which now lies derelict and unused in the few years that have transpired since its original use.
