Parliamentary Buildings

Little other buildings attract the public as much as houses of parliament, and the level of attention ensures that a seemingly minor decision may attract polemics and debate due to the highly symbolic role that such buildings play. There is the additonal factor that publicly-funded projects are open to considerably higher scrutiny than in the private sector, often involving the media in protacted discussions.

Four particular buildings are collected here, each unique in aesthetic and contextual attributes, yet alike in terms of the role of the public imagination and media involvement that they have enticed. All are completed, and revered to be architectural successes by critics and public alike, yet were contentious in their development to a varying degree.

Below you will find a selection of web resources from which to learn more about each building followed by a compiled bibliography for all four parliamentary buildings.
